Whenever we get into a legal bind about things such as car accidents, marital issues, or defective products being sold by companies, we may need some legal advice to help deal with the issues. That advice, however, rarely comes free and may cost a lot of money. Fortunately, all hope is not lost. There are certain websites that offer free legal advice.

One website that provides free legal aid is FreeAdvice.com, founded by Advice Company in 1997. One of its distinguishing awards is being named Best of the Web by Forbes, and it has several other such honorary titles. The website's editorial board is also comprised of experienced attorneys, former law school deans, law professors, former government officials, and senior partners and legal counsel from some of the nation's top leading law firms and legal departments. The editorial board is responsible for verifying and approving the free legal advice that appears on the website.

The website's free legal advice features a list of legal topics, and is linked to its sister page, AttorneyPages.com. This website provides free legal advice by allowing visitors to conduct a comprehensive search for attorneys based on legal topic and location. On the FreeAdvice website, one can research in-depth legal topics including auto accident, bankruptcy, real estate, and trusts among many others. It's essentially a legal encyclopedia offering free legal advice, and is not saturated with legal jargon that can be undecipherable to all but attorneys specializing in the field.

Another website that provides free legal advice is LawInfo.com. This website provides free legal advice in the form of state-specific information about certain law topics such as immigration regulations, workers compensation laws, and business law. LawInfo also has a Legal Dictionary that can come in handy when trying to figure out what court concepts such as habeas corpus, caveat, or certiorari really mean. Another distinguishing feature is the Legal Discussion Boards, which allows people to chat about their legal problems and get some free legal help from their peers.

Free legal advice surrounding wills may also be obtained from websites that provide forms for legal wills. The majority of these sites are essentially make-your-own-will websites. However, there are no free legal wills. Though the website of the Internet Legal Research Group (ILRG), offers a form on its page, that form may not necessarily be binding unless purchased and e-mailed in professional MS Word format or faxed. The legal will form costs $9.99. Nevertheless, even if one doesn't purchase the legal will form there, one can look at the general format of it and get tips and tricks from the site on completing a last will and testament.

There may be some fraudulent free legal advice websites, but there are also quite legitimate free legal advice sites that can be very helpful for people who need help with the law and how it works. Even though these sites provide very comprehensive information and appear to be very good free legal advice sources, it's never a mistake to exercise prudence. Be sure to check the sources and editorial board of the free legal websites, and always retain a level of skepticism.
